Total Impact Exceeded $132 Million
At more than 294,500 patient encounters last year, Northwest Health - La Porte delivered on its commitment to provide quality healthcare for the La Porte County area. The hospital’s 2025 Community Benefit Report shows it contributed more than $132 million to the cities and counties we serve through charity/uncompensated care provided, capital dollars reinvested in services and facilities, employee payroll, charitable projects and payment of almost $13 million in taxes.
The hospital invested its resources to recruit physicians and other providers and add new services like a minimally invasive treatment for obstructive sleep apnea.
The reinvestment in services benefits local residents and serves as an important resource for patients.
“It’s our privilege to transform lives, helping patients manage their health at every stage of life.” said Mark Casanova chief executive officer of Northwest Health - La Porte and Northwest Health - Starke. We are here to care for our patients in the place we all call home and we offer advanced medical services to make it easy to access the care they need.”
Area families grew with the help of the Northwest Health - La Porte birthing and family care service as more than 500 babies were delivered in 2025. Last year this service also earned national recognition as a best maternity hospital from US News and World Report and Newsweek.
Keeping patients’ safe remains a priority, and this focus has led to the hospital earning an A on the Leapfrog Patient Safety Grade in November for the third consecutive grading period.
Emergency medicine is a critical service, with more than 20,000 visits to the emergency room at Northwest Health - La Porte. Life-saving medically necessary care was provided to all patients, regardless of their ability to pay, with $15 million in charity and uncompensated care in 2025.
The hospital and its employees also support organizations that make a difference locally, especially those addressing social determinants of health. Through the annual Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive benefitting the food bank at the PAX Center and contributions to charitable organizations like Dunebrook, La Porte Family YMCA and the Nest Shelter, Northwest Health - La Porte gives back to the community all year long.
Payroll of $92 million supports the delivery of quality care by a team of physicians, nurses and support staff who are passionate about serving patients. Their dedication makes a difference in the lives of neighbors, friends and the larger community.
“We appreciate our entire staff and we are investing in resources to help maintain a culture that attracts and retains these talented people,” said Casanova. “This team is passionate about caring for those who are counting on us. We have an unwavering commitment to patient safety, clinical excellence, and doing the right thing every day for those who trust us with their care.”
Support for the future healthcare workforce includes training the next generation of medical professionals through partnerships with 13 colleges and universities. The hospital’s staff also invites groups of local high school students into the hospital every year to expose them to several clinical professions and spark an interest in healthcare careers.
